Dear Summer Reading Kids,
This week, we traded sandy shores for the calm and curious world of ponds with our theme Pond Explorers.
Ponds may seem quiet at first, but when you take a closer look, they are full of life. You might find frogs, turtles, insects, plants, and so much more! We discovered just how busy these tiny ecosystems really are.
During storytime, we read Over and Under the Pond by Kate Messner and followed along as creatures large and small shared their home. It helped us imagine what it would be like to explore a pond up close.
For our craft, everyone made their very own origami and 3D frogs, ready to hop into adventure! Then we became real scientists by looking at some real pond water and discovering all sorts of tiny, hidden life. We also played the fun, active games Don’t Fall In Lilypad Hop, where balance and memory were key!
If you couldn’t make it this week, we have colouring sheet and instructions for your own origami frog that you can print at home or at your local library. We also encourage you to check out some books while you’re visiting so you can add your very own fish to our mural! You can try visiting a nearby pond with a grown-up or reading a book about freshwater habitats from our Week 2 online reading list. You could even draw or build your own pond ecosystem!
Keep up the amazing reading. We’ll see you next week as we follow the flowing water!
Sincerely,
Giselle and Sarah
