Dear Summer Reading Kids,

This week, we dove deep into the water to uncover the “Secrets of the Ocean.”

We talked about how the ocean can be many things: calm, powerful, dark, colourful, and full of amazing creatures and habitats. During storytime, we read My Ocean is Blue by Darren Lebeuf and Ocean! Waves for All by Stacy McAnulty explored different perspectives of the sea.

We were so lucky to have a special visit from the Huron County Museum on-the-Go, who helped us learn even more through hands-on exploration and the adventure of Huron County settlers journeyed across the ocean!

For our craft, we created colourful pasta coral reefs using salt dough, painted pasta, and beads. Each one was full of creativity and imagination.

If you couldn’t make it, you can make your own coral with ingredients from home. You can also try drawing your own underwater world or reading a book about ocean animals. We have colouring sheets that you can print at home or at your local library. We also encourage you to check out some books from our Week 7 reading list while you’re visiting!

We can’t believe we’re almost at the final week. Keep reading!

Sincerely,
Giselle and Sarah
