Summer Reading Week 5: Monster Mayhem

Summer Reading Week 5: Monster Mayhem

This week we are making some friends that are… a little bit different than the usual! Check this out! Monster Mayhem! We are learning that not all monsters are scary, just misunderstood, and some monsters need confidence and the power of friendship to defeat! Some can even teach us a thing or two about our emotions and how to deal with them! We need your bravery, confidence, and creativity this week at the library for our session to face these monsters together! We hope to see you there!

To have fun exploring this week’s theme at home, download our monstrous colouring sheets and have a look through this week’s marvelous reading list!  Head over to your local library branch and see if you can find a friendly monster book!

Summer Reading Week 3: Creatures, Critters & Crawlers

Summer Reading Week 3: Creatures, Critters & Crawlers

Week three, where to be? Well, at your local library for the Summer Reading Program, of course! Leave your pets at home though, because this week’s stories are for kids only!

This week we will be venturing into the world of animals and insects, being curious about how they adapt to live in their environments, what they spend all day doing, what and who they eat, and we are even going to make a home for our very own spider friend! The theme this week is: Check this out! Creatures, Critters, and Crawlers! Even though there won’t be actual animals at this meeting, we will be reading plenty of books, making lots of crafts, and playing lots of games that will show us how amazing animals are! We can’t wait to see you at the library this week!

To learn more, download this week’s critter colouring sheet and check out this week’s animal-packed reading list

Say hi to your pet for us!

This week, we explore the seven seas, travelling on the magical sailing ships, befriending colourful parrots, fighting off sea monsters, and visiting the shark islands! Can you guess what this week’s theme is? Check this out! A Pirate Party!

Be sure to check out this week’s colouring sheets and pirate-themed reading list for some fantastic story suggestions! Of course, you can also visit your local Huron County Library Branch this summer! We hope to see you there!

Summer Reading Week 1: New Friends!

Summer Reading Week 1: New Friends!

School is out and the Summer Reading Program has begun—hooray! We are so excited to be visiting all the incredible Huron County Library branches and cannot wait to read some exciting stories with all of you who are joining us this summer!

Last week we kicked off the program with the theme Check This Out! New Friends! We met LOTS of new friends, so we focused on being brave and stepping outside of our comfort zones when it comes to meeting new people. This certainly can be scary, but give it a try! You’ll see that friends can be there to trust, play, and have fun!

For those of you who are unable to join us at the program, feel free to print off a colouring sheet at home or from your local branch. Each week, we will be sharing a new themed colouring sheet on our blog; we hope you enjoy them!

Also, we encourage you to go to your local library sometime this week and check out some great books to begin your summer reading adventures! For story suggestions based on this week’s theme, check out our online reading list for week 1!

Always be brave!

Passport to Discovery – Sun and Summer

Passport to Discovery – Sun and Summer

Calling all young explorers! Your next adventure starts today! This month we celebrate the sun and summer with activities that inspire us to get outdoors and enjoy the sunshine!

Let’s get started:

  • Pick up a Take & Make Kit from your library branch to make a sun nature print! Making sun prints is a fun activity that uses leaves and flowers and the power of sunshine!
  • Grow your own flowers or vegetables this summer by checking out seeds from the Huron County Library’s Seed Library!
  • Play Summer BINGO!
  • Read one of these books from our collection.
  • Download this month’s activity sheet if you prefer to get started from home.

Explorers are welcome to join the program at any time. Here’s how it works:

  • Pick up a passport from your local branch to begin a full year of learning, reading, doing, and having a whole lot of fun!
  • Visit your local branch each month to pick up a themed craft kit and activity sheet.
  • Complete at least one of the activities
  • Return to the branch to get your passport stamped and ballot entered into a grand prize draw that will take place at the end of the program in February 2024.
